I love this promotion, because not only can consumers learn about how their food is made, they also have the opportunity to give back to society – which is wonderful, especially given the number of families in need.
Intrigued? Well, visit How Wheat Works, which is an online, interactive program that offers a full education of how wheat is grown. Web site visitors of all ages can learn the nutritional value of wheat, by “growing”, “harvesting”, and “milling” their very own virtual kernels to help create the wheat food of their choice.
To participate, you’ll need to register, and then confirm your registration. Each phase – growth, harvest, milling & baking, and the grocer’s aisle, takes a few minutes, but is each is done on a separate day (you’ll receive a confirmation email when it’s time to start the next phase). After each phase, there’s the opportunity to learn even more – including how to cook with wheat, and learning about where wheat is grown in your area.
But the best part? For each participant, the Council donates two pounds of flour, up to 90,000 pounds, to Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S. troops and their families. The donation is made possible by ADM and ConAgra Mills, two of the world’s largest millers.
