Communication Parents Want to Have – Connecting With Children

Parenting assumes three different actions: to manage, to teach and to communicate with children. The third component, communication, is often not taken into consideration in the relationship with children. How do they communicate with children?

Really, they are absolutely right! For communication parents need to have heart. In communication parents and children are equal souls. So, when parents try to communicate with the child using the management or teaching approach they don’t have a connection. Are parents ready to be equal, to disclose their souls to children? Not all adults are willing to accept the soul-to-soul relationship, equality of souls. Not all adults can remove the cloth of superiority in their communication with children.

Check to see if you call for any sense of danger in your children. In many cases children simply are afraid of their parents. If you want to connect with your children forget about attempts to manage them, forget about teaching them anything.

Parents Connecting With Children For Healthier Relationships

Children, by nature, crave to connect with adults. When parents focus on a child’s bid for connection in positive, healthy ways, that child is less likely to act out.

Emotionally connecting with a child in positive ways starts with active listening. Giving proper time and attention to a child through active listening will allow the child to fully process information emotionally, before considering logical ways to react. When listening to a child, be prepared for emotional honesty. Studies show that most kids are pretty poor liars. Mom: “Want to go have lunch?”

Steven: “I’m playing a video game right now”

During this exchange, Steven interprets his mom’s bid for connection as a simple request for information, not an effort at connection. Finally, when emotionally connecting with a child, understand that emotions can be intense for children. Parents can have the patience and focus to help a child navigate the emotional journey, in an effort to build even stronger connection.
